3 reasons we love Theory of Change as a strategy tool

      Towards clarity, consensus and learning

Theory of change is a firm favourite of ours. There are many reasons to work with it. In this blog we share three key benefits of working with it when exploring organisational or programme strategy discussions.

      1. It promises greater clarity | The theory of change process provides both a neat conceptual framework and a safe facilitated space. We can use these to explore ideas freely, within parameters set by the group. Sharing and distilling together allows for consensus and clarity to emerge on the specific changes we seek and why.

      2. It helps teams to unite | During the theory of change development process teams have time and space to reflect together and find common ground. Exploring why the organisation or programme exists, and what drives the team to get out of bed in the morning can both motivate and unite.

      3. It supports action learning | When used to support review and reflection theory of change can help us understand why certain actions did or did not lead to achieving the impact intended. These insights can be used to adjust plans and operations, to ensure strategies and activities used remain relevant in the dynamic contexts within which we are often required to work.
